Welcome to OC-ALA’s 2018 Community Connection event! Following our theme for this year, Volunteer, we will be performing a morning of service for Second Harvest Food Bank Orange County. We will be sorting and packaging food to aid in their efforts to distribute enough food to feed 250,000 men, women and children each month.

The mission of Community Connection is to encourage ALA chapters, its members, firms, business partners, relatives and friends to come together to contribute time, energy and resources toward improving their own communities. Our Chapter theme for this year is Volunteer, and this event at Second Harvest gives all of us a great opportunity to make a difference for others in our community simply by devoting a few hours of our time.   Please join us!

Details:

  • Saturday, October 6, 2018 – 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Participation is limited so sign up early!
  • Register on our website and watch for the confirmation email; you will be given instructions to also register as a volunteer on the Second Harvest website.  Your registration for this special day is not complete until you have completed both steps.
  • The tasks that need to be performed may be physically demanding, and the temperature in the Food Distribution Center (where we’ll be working) is like the temperature outside. Please plan accordingly!
  • If you wish to bring a food donation to complement your volunteer service, their most-needed shelf-stable items are peanut butter, canned meat, canned fruit and hot or cold cereal. Donations are appreciated and entirely optional!
  • OC-ALA is arranging a group lunch for all of our volunteers immediately upon conclusion of our morning of service. We hope you will plan to join us! Details will be provided prior to the event.

We will maintain a wait-list in the event that we reach the maximum number of registrants.  If you make a reservation but find later that you cannot attend, please be certain to let us know so that we can free up your spot for someone else.

After the Event
All of the OC-ALA members and Business Partners who volunteer at this event will be invited to a picnic lunch at the Great Park immediately following our morning of volunteer service.  We hope you will all be able to join us! Details about the lunch will be provided to all participants during the first week of October.
