President's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators! It is an honor to serve as the President of this chapter for the 2018-2019 Board year.

The spirit of volunteerism is strong throughout ALA. Every member of the Executive and Extended Board is a volunteer, and should be thanked for their commitment to a year-long position. These Board members are also supported by a myriad of chapter members who come when called, adding their support through individual tasks for different projects. Bottom line: there's no cadre of magical elves that produce all of the chapter's activities. It's the hands, hearts, minds and time of all of these individuals!

Our chapter members come from a wide array of positions within the legal management profession. The OC-ALA chapter leadership strives to provide educational and networking resources in support of all of our members. As a member of our chapter, you will also soon come to understand that our members themselves constitute a large part of the value of membership. We help each other daily, with tried and true advice, "how to's", lessons from the school of hard knocks, and more.

OC-ALA also benefits from the support of a tremendous network of valued Business Partners. These folks bring us creative ideas, new technology, and real solutions for many of our day-to-day needs. They strive to build long-term relationships with our members, and we hope that our members will turn to our Business Partners, because they bring so much to the table.

For the year ahead, we plan to continue to offer a strong lineup of educational programs and networking opportunities, along with Project SELF, a service project in support of ALA's Community Connection program, and of course ACES 2019! We welcome your participation and your input as we plan and execute all of these programs. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the Executive Board with your comments, questions and suggestions throughout the year.

As I bring this to a close I will ask you to keep this in mind: Volunteering gets us out of our homes, out of our offices, and out of our every-day routine. It reminds us that there is a multi-faceted world around us that is different in so many ways! Volunteering lets us stretch ourselves, learn new skills, or pay back a kindness, and the skills that we learn by volunteering frequently translate back to the office. We are better, stronger leaders within our firms because of our volunteering experience. I hope that you will volunteer - to become an active member of our Chapter!
